Many of the 50 volunteers who recently spent time raking leaves, painting benches and completing other tasks at Camp Capella at Phillips Lake also have been participants of the program.
"We're in a special needs world and it's so great to have folks that benefit from helping out and from the chance to come to camp because we try to do the best to give them the best possible experience at a traditional summer camp and we make anything they want to do possible," Camp Director Harvey Chesley said.
Camp capella traditionally has seven sessions but is adding an eighth one this summer, a travel session. The camp is set to open in mid-June.
